The Great Market Caper

Good times are in the immediate offing at the Grainger Market in Newcastle.

This Saturday (September 3), the heart of the city centre’s hustle and bustle will transform into a night-time venue, offering all manner of delights under the banner labelled, The Great Market Caper.

Street food, live music, DJs, stand up comedy, salsa dancing and a network of tasty bar options will all be on offer for the ticket price of £10.

As well as offering Grainger Market traders the chance to get in on the after-hours action, the event will also see a number of guest pop-up stalls and sellers showcasing their charms in the signature aisles.

The event, which will signal the start of a regular monthly capers at the Grainger Market, has already received support from Hairy Biker Si King and Viz legend, Simon Donald who have both presumably recognised the considerable potential of finding innovative ways of making the most of one of Newcastle’s cast iron assets.

Planned to recur on the first Saturday of every month – with extra seasonal and themed events also in the offing – plans for future Capers already include the creation of temporary roller discos and bowling alleys.

But, focusing on the detail for this Saturday’s inaugural happening, anyone who gets along can look forward to live music from Gosforth’s Nadeem Shakir, indie folk fella Zac Younger Banks and Gateshead singer songwriter Hannah Robinson and a comedy line up led by Gavin Webster.

The Great Market Caper kicks off at 6pm on Saturday (Sept 3) and will run until midnight. For more information, follow their Facebook and Instagram accounts and keep your eye on the website.
