People’s Theatre

What is it?

The frontrunner when it comes to non-professional theatre making in the North East, the People’s Theatre is a nailed-on jewel in Newcastle’s creative crown. Having celebrated its centenary back in 2011, it’s one of the oldest of its kind in the country.

Why is it smashing?

Putting out season after season of ambitious and polished productions, which are performed in its substantial 500-seater main stage, the People’s Theatre membership – who produce every last bit of every production – has a glowing reputation for working their socks off to make sure what you see on stage meets the highest of standards.

Many members have gone on to enjoy professional careers. Just ask Ross Noble, Andrea Riseborough or Kevin Whately. And if having Lewis among its alumni doesn’t impress you, an extensive 2016 refurbishment means it’s now got a bloody lovely new foyer.
