Live Theatre

What is it?

Situated on the quayside, Live Theatre is the spiritual home for new writing in Newcastle. It is a place where creative talent can be nurtured and teeth can be cut in a supportive and constructive environment, both for writers and actors of all ages.  For audiences, it is a warm and welcoming space where there’s always a decent chance you’re going to see something excellent.

Why is it smashing?

As well as being a fertile proving ground for new blood – Lee Hall of Billy Elliot and Rocketman fame came through the ranks and has often returned since making his name – Live Theatre is a fantastic venue for plays and stand up comedy, and always has varied and interesting seasons both on the go, and in the offing.

Live Theatre in Newcastle

Founded in the seventies when Newcastle’s quayside was a million miles from its 21st century picture-postcard status, Live has a national and international reputation for producing brilliant work and bringing on new talent.

Its Youth Theatre programme has been encouraging young performers from all over the city to unleash their creative potential for more than 20 years and its very canny business plan – The Broad Chare pub offers one of many tasty revenue streams – has done much to sew its future into the city’s cultural tapestry.
