What is it?
The only purpose-built newsreel theatre in the UK still operating as a cinema, thanks to a loving restoration in 2006. The Tyneside is fabulous ‘miniplex’ in the centre of Newcastle, showing a thoughtfully curated mix of mainstream and niche films across it’s four individual and charismatic screens.
Why is it smashing?
This is where grown ups come to watch films. You can have pre-movie food and drink in the Tyneside Bar Cafe or its sister down the corridor, Vicolo before (best of all) taking said drink through to the screen with you. And if they’re not showing the film you want, just hire it with some friends and choose your own.
