What is it?
One of the tastiest treats you’re likely to find in the loveliness of the Ouseburn – under Byker Bridge to be exact – Thali Tray is a magnet for anyone fancying some top drawer Indian street food – all served up sensibly on a compartmentalised tray.
After initially introducing itself to customers via a mobile unit in 2o18, Thali Tray quickly found a bricks a mortar home – and a partner in Newcastle Brewing Ltd. Together, Thali Tray founder, Josh and father-and-son brewing team Mike and Leo Bell launched Newcastle’s first craft brewery and Indian street food outfit. And were welcomed with open mouths.
Why is it smashing?
Having spent six months picking up recipes and cooking techniques from every kind of food outlet he could find during a tour of India, Josh came back determined to put all kinds of fire in our bellies – while making our tastebuds sing into the bargain. And what a beautiful union he’s found with Newcastle Brewing Ltd.
Who wouldn’t fancy spending some time around a fire pit with one of their signature trays and a pint of the Mike and Leo’s finest craft ale?
Meanwhile a crowdfunding campaign is currently underway to open a Bigg (not a spelling mistake) sister restaurant, Thali Tap, in Newcastle city centre’s legendary Bigg (told you) Market in the summer of 2019. Keeping everything crossed.
