What is it?
Ernest is an absolute belter of a cafe bar, which has charmed itself into the routines of anyone who regularly finds themselves at the top end of the Ouseburn – and many who are minded to make the trip solely with the aim of dropping into “that lush place with Darth Vader on the wall”.
Why is it smashing?
It’s a one stop shop for honest-to-goodness great food and drink – we’re particularly fond of the cocktail and breakfast menus with special mentions going to the hash bowls and delightful hot toddies – and don’t even get us started on its cracking programme of music, comedy and film nights.

In 2020, Ernest got itself a little mate in the form of a delightful shop, deli and takeout. Situated around the back of the cafe, and called Ernie – what else? -the shop is bursting with very good and very local produce and an outdoor serving hatch which puts out hot drinks, sarnies, soups and sweet treats like it was going out of fashion.
